Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC, Februrary 24th 2022 - It was on Saturday evening, February 5th, around 8:30 p.m., that AttriX client Pascal Perron, Vice-President of Dynapro, the transport subsidiary of Courchesne Larose, was notified that one of his truck was suspected to have been robbed. Mr. Perron then logged in to his MyGeotab platform, in order to analyze the truck's movements and speed, among others. He thus noticed that the vehicle was moving without a driver being associated with it and that the route he had traveled from the home port was unusual. The Vice-President of Dynapro immediately reported the theft of the truck to the police.
“From the beginning of the investigation, the police were very impressed by the incredible precision of the informations that I gave them,” reports Mr. Perron. It is indeed thanks to the real-time tracing (Active Tracking) of the Geotab telematics system, as well as information concerning its speed, that the police were able to find the truck, parked in a dead-end in Montreal. They quickly apprehended the suspect, who was still in the vehicle.
Accelerated route history of an actual portion of the route taken by one of the criminals, broadcast with the client's permission, demonstrating the accuracy of Geotab's active tracing.
A little later, Mr. Perron received a second call telling him that another truck was traveling outside his pre-established route. This one seemed to be in the hands of a second thief. He therefore reported a second theft to the police. They located the truck, once again, using the datas available on Mr. Perron's MyGeotab platform. This time, when the officers arrived on the scene where the vehicle was parked, in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, the thief had already left.
Seeing the benefits of the MyGeotab platform in terms of theft prevention, Mr. Perron extended his rules, so that the Dynapro team also receives notifications, thus allowing several employees to be informed as well when the trucks are moving outside the home terminal, without a driver having identified himself.
The next morning the same truck was stolen and vandalized again! Mr. Perron and his colleagues then received an alert and the police, still guided by real-time geolocation, managed to catch up with the driver. A manhunt ensued on Highway 40, which ended when the thief lost control of the truck and crashed into a guardrail. Once the vehicle stopped, the police proceeded to the arrest of the individual. To their surprise, they realized that it was the same thief as the day before!
Pascal Perron adds “I am extremely satisfied by the accuracy of the MyGeotab platform, thanks to which we were able to quickly get the two trucks, from the Dynapro fleet, back.”.
