Last week, AttriX attended Geotab’s first ever Data Bootcamp, an event they hope to repeat several times in the next few years. The event included a combination of instructor-led and hands-on workshops and training, in order to allow the Geotab community of resellers, partners and clients to accelerate knowledge and proficiency in working with massive volumes of data, and delivering cutting-edge, AI-assisted solutions to our end-customers.
Geotab has long led the talk related to Big Data in the telematics industry, and ahead of the curve to prepare for the fourth industrial revolution, consumes and stores over 30 billion data points daily into a worldwide Big Data pool no other telematics company can come close to. Now, the focus is on using machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to draw invaluable insights from this data in ways that were never thought to be possible.
During the bootcamp, several use cases and specific ML models and techniques were demonstrated, such as a model to accurately predict vehicle battery and alternator failures in order to transition from a preventative maintenance model, to a predictive maintenance model – reducing unnecessary work while still avoiding costly downtime. Other use cases include predicting parking location availability, detecting infrastructure problems and weather patterns, automatically creating and classifying client locations and types, detecting vehicle vocations based on driving patterns and making intelligent vehicle purchase recommendations, accurately predicting time to charge in electric vehicles, and many more.
The bootcamp also included talks from guest speakers from Deloitte, Element.AI and Google centered around AI and ML. Google is an important partner for Geotab, and vice-versa. In fact, in just a few years, Geotab has grown to be in the top 10 most significant clients on the Google Cloud Platform, employing multiple key cloud products such as Google BigQuery, Google Dataflow, Google Cloud Storage as well as Google AI tools such as Tensorflow and other ML solutions.
At AttriX, all this information is already being applied to our development efforts. We are building AI into our own Driver Challenge to take it to the next level. We are working with Geotab on detention time reporting metrics. We are baking new projects with state-of-the-art technology to truly bring our customers to the next level. It’s exciting times ahead, and once again AttriX and Geotab are leading the way. Stay tuned!
