Is Geotab’s Cloud ELD compliant? (revisited)

We thought we’d covered all the bases on the subject in this previous post from May 2019 (click here to ready). We wish everyone had read it and thoroughly reflected upon it.

But alas, we’re still hearing FUD being spread on this subject and scare tactics being used in the industry. So we thought we’d let everyone and our competitors know about this neat product, IOX-USB, which physically connects your Geotab telematics device to your BYOD or company-supplied device. You can see the complete specs by following this link. If your fleet’s day-to-day involves spending long periods of time outside of cell coverage, it might be for you. While IOX-USB is nothing new, we thought it appropriate at this point to detail its use case and benefits.

With IOX-USB installed and configured, you get the following added benefits:

1. It ensures your device is charging and always on, without relying on cigarette-lighter chargers.

2. It enables realtime communication from the GO device, syncing duty status changes and engine data readings without requiring a cellular connection

One might argue that a physical USB connection is even more reliable than WiFi, but we won’t take sides. At AttriX, we’d like to reiterate that the ELD product we’ve sold for the past two years has always been in full compliance of the ELD mandate. Failsafe offline sync with IOX-USB is an added safety net for clients specifically targeting low-coverage areas for prolonged periods of time, and will come in handy for the Canadian ELD mandate, because Canada is so vast and some regions still aren’t covered by cellular networks. IOX-USB is a perfect fit in the Great White North.

Again, we believe that the vast majority of our clientele does not require IOX-USB to stay in compliance. Geotab Drive supports offline roadside inspections and is able to produce a compliant ELD report outside of cellular coverage. If you’re unsure if you need it or not, we have tools to audit your usage and make proper recommendations, feel free to reach out.

Geotab services over 500 000 heavy duty vehicles in North America, was recently awarded the world’s largest telematics contract by GSA Fleet to service 75 US federal agencies and was ranked number one telematics vendor worldwide by ABI research.

In full confidence,
