The transition to electric vehicles and green energy is a huge challenge for the years to come, and the green shift announced in the 2020 budget tabled yesterday, March 10th, by the Quebec government is seen as the cornerstone of this strategic transition. The Plan for a Green Economy 2030, which will count on a total of $6.2 billion, including $2.3 billion for projects to electrify heavy trucks and public transit vehicles, is a step in the right direction.

Clearly, electrification of transport is at the heart of the government’s strategy and AttriX welcomes this vision. In doing so, Quebec is well positioned to promote the electrification of transportation and increase its performance. We applaud the government’s initiatives and vision, and AttriX is jumping into the arena to ensure that Quebec remains one of the world leaders in electrification.

Electrification of transport is the key to combating climate change. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the transportation sector have been growing for years, driven by increased domestic, interprovincial and international trade:

• Freight transportation generates 40% of all GHG emissions from the transportation sector in Quebec ;
• Road trucking is responsible for 79% of the sector’s emissions, followed by marine (14%), rail (6%) and air (0.7%);
• Emissions from freight transportation are expected to exceed those from passenger transportation (cars, light trucks and vans) by 2030.

AttriX is already at work in this ecosystem. In addition to focusing its efforts on positioning our expertise in the compliance and heavy-duty truck industry, we are also working in parallel to develop expertise that will set us apart from taking our rightful place in the electric vehicle market, thanks to the data analysis-based telematics of our technology partner, Geotab.

Telematics, a solution to consider

Telematics – a technology that captures data wirelessly and in real time – is increasingly being used in private, municipal and government fleets to improve vehicle efficiency and guide driver behaviour. It provides a fleet manager with information on how to boost productivity efficiency, optimize various operations such as fuel expense analysis, implement and measure safety initiatives, and automate regulatory compliance and reporting.

To help cities meet their targets for reducing GHG emissions, telematics can also be used to encourage municipal drivers to adopt safer and greener driving behaviour. By monitoring factors such as hard braking, aggressive driving, rapid acceleration and vehicle speed, relative to posted road speeds, fleet operators can target problematic behaviours that have a significant impact on the environment.

This is what sets AttriX apart in the market, as we work daily to help our customers collect data from connected vehicles. This in turn provides intelligent city information and transportation analysis for road networks. Thus, thanks to the training we give directly to drivers and fleet managers, AttriX wants to continue its efforts to promote electrification and contribute, in its own way, to accelerating the commercial adoption of electric vehicles in Quebec.

Thus, we believe that the use of technology, through data, will influence management decisions. By partnering with a supplier equipped with innovative telematics technology, such as AttriX’s, we hope to become a true leader to enable Québec to remain one of the world leaders in transportation electrification.
